The main form of estrogen in the body. In men it is produced mostly by aromatisation of testosterone and is needed in a narrow range for bone, cardiovascular and sexual health.

Estradiol rises when aromatising anabolic steroids are used and falls when aromatase inhibitors are used. Both extremes cause problems. It is part of the standard hormone panel for anyone using androgens, and in women it is central to understanding menstrual disruption and recovery.
